Famous Friday: Courageous Cat

by Paws on Your Heart on January 10, 2014

Courageous Cat and his sidekick Minute Mouse are a very famous super hero duo from the early 1960s. We love them because of their blatant similarities to another super hero duo that was popular during this time.

The Courageous Cat and Minute Mouse television show featured two animal super heroes who had secret identities. These super heroes lived in a Empire City in a “Cat Cave,” were called for help via the “Cat Signal” on their television set, cruised around town in their “Cat Mobile,” and they even had access to a “Cat Plane” and a “Cat Boat.”

Courageous Cat was most famous for fighting crime with his many gadgets and props, especially his useful tool belt that had many objects he could use to defeat his enemies – with the most common arch-enemy being Flat Face Frog. See one of their popular episodes titled The Case of the Cave Treasure HERE.

Does this sound like another crime fighting duo that you’re familiar with? That’s because Bob Kane invented Courageous Cat and Minute Mouse as a spoof of Batman and Robin from the Batman television show. The obvious similarities between the two shows are really what made Courageous Cat and Minute Mouse a huge hit.

There were 130 episodes of Courageous Cat and Minute Mouse, most falling within the 5 minute time frame. These short episodes were often used as filler on television when a movie or television show ended early. If you’re wondering where you can find these episodes, all of  the episodes were released on DVD in 2002 by A&E Home Video.
