Famous Friday: Henri, le Chat Noir

by Paws on Your Heart on July 12, 2013

Henri, le Chat Noir is an angst-filled tuxedo cat who is famous for his many short-films. The creator of the Henri films, William Braden, was inspired by the American perception of French films, thus making his main character a pretentious, self-loving individual – clearly a cat was the perfect choice.

The films are very artsy, and Henri is given a very conceited personality that works perfectly with the tone of each film. In each film Henri muses about his life and the things around him – specifically the things in his environment that irritate him or get him down. This outlook on life is best shown in his very first short-film from 2007 titled Henri. If you haven’t seen Henri, le Chat Noir’s original video, you can see it HERE.

Although this first video was outstanding, it was Henri’s second video that truly skyrocketed his popularity. The video is called Henri 2, Paw de DeuxThis video very funny, especially since it seems to portray the personality of a stereotypical snobbish house cat. This video became so popular that in 2012 it was awarded the “Golden Kitty Award” for “Best Cat Video On The Internet” at the Walker Art Center’s Internet Cat Video Film Festival.

Since 2012, Henri, le Chat Noir’s popularity has continued to grow. Today he has his very own website, book Henri, le Chat Noir: The Existential Musings of an Angst-Filled Cat, Facebook Page, Twitter Account, and YouTube Channel where he stars in many more short films.

If you haven’t seen any Henri, le Chat Noir videos, be sure to visit his YouTube Channel or his website to check them out. The videos are cute, sophisticated, and artistic, which differentiates them from most of the cat videos on the internet. Henri’s personality, and the uniqueness of the videos are also why they are some of our favourite cat videos on the internet.
