by Paws on Your Heart on May 10, 2013

Puss in Boots has been famous for over 300 years, and he is definitely one of our favourite fictional felines. Whether it’s because of his witty personality, his fun adventures, or his adorable appearance, Puss in Boots has become one of the most popular fictional felines of all time. So when did his popularity begin?

The character of Puss in Boots was first introduced in 1697 in the classic fairy tale by Charles Perrault titled Master Cat. This story highlights Puss’s ability to use trickery and wit in order to gain power and wealth for his master. The story also gives background information as to why Puss wears boots all of the time (just in case you were wondering). You can read the full story HERE.

The story of Puss in Boots was very popular after its release. The story has even provided inspiration to artists, musicians, and choreographers over the centuries. The most recent example of this inspiration is the use of Puss in Boots in the ever popular Shrek films. Puss is still portrayed as a trickster in these films, most notably by using his excellent swordsmanship and his cute kitten expression to get himself out of trouble.

Puss became a fan favourite in the Shrek films, which enabled him to have his own spin off film in 2011 called Puss in BootsThe film was a great success for fairy tale fans and cat enthusiasts alike. We especially enjoyed the scenes with the infamous “Ooooo” Cat.

Although he’s often portrayed as a trickster, Puss in Boots always comes out on top as a heroic character, which is why we adore him… and that’s why he’s today’s famous feline
