Our Top 10 Favourite Cat Movies

by Paws on Your Heart on March 11, 2013

We love watching movies… cat movies pictureespecially when our feline friends are the movie stars. For this reason, we’ve come up with the following list of our favourite cat movies of all time (we’ve listed them in alphabetical order). These cat movies feature both real and cartoon cats, and are great options to choose from when you’re simply in the mood to watch cats. Be sure to click on the movie titles too, as they link to a trailer of each of the cat movies.

1. African Cats –  Disney Nature Documentary (2011)
Every Earth Day Disney releases a live action animal documentary. In 2011, they released African Cats the story of two different African wildcat families. The story follows each feline family showing how the adult cats struggle to teach their cubs how to live in their wild surroundings. We love this movie because it shows just how amazing feline mothers are (whether wild or domestic).

2. Aristocats (1970)
A Disney movie featuring felines of many statures, jazzy music, and a big adventure… need we say more? The movie features adorable kittens, a dedicated mom, and a great soundtrack. It’s no wonder this is one of our favourite cat movies!

3. The Cat from Outer Space (1978)
We love The Cat from Outer Space because it’s one of the first live action movies that has two real felines playing the lead role as an alien cat who has landed on earth. The story-line is fun (it’s about an alien cat, what’s more fun than that?), and the cats do an exceptional job acting in the film.

4. Cats and Dogs (2001)
Cats and Dogs is a movie that follows the old belief that cats and dogs are mortal enemies. The cats and dogs in the movie are shown to be caught up in a war, yet their owners are oblivious about the feud. Even though cats are portrayed as the bad guys in this movie, we still think that it’s a fun movie for kids of all ages.

5. Felix the Cat the Movie (1988)
Felix is one of the most famous cats in popular culture (he’s also one of our favourite cartoon cats). This movie takes Felix on an adventure (with his bag of tricks of course) to the land of Oriana, where he must save himself and the Princess of Oriana from certain doom.

6. Garfield (2004)
Following the popular Garfield comic strip, this movie features Garfield having to save his friend Odie from a dog thief. We love Garfield so it’s great to see him up to his old tricks in this live action movie.

7. Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey (1993)
A classic movie that combines the intellect of a cat and two dogs who need to find their way back home. This movie is a fun adventure that shows how cats and dogs can work together as friends to achieve a shared goal.

8. The Lion King (1994)
This is one of our favourite cat movies because it not only shows how the main character Simba is able to overcome many struggles to prove that he is the rightful King of Pride Rock, but it also highlights an unlikely friendship between a lion, a meerkat and a warthog.

9. Oliver and Company (1988)
Oliver and Company is a “twist” on the book Oliver Twist, by Charles Dickens. Instead of a boy, the movie features a cartoon kitten named Oliver who finds himself lost on the streets of New York, eventually making friends with a gang of dogs who help him to find his way home. The combination of a classic tale and an adorable kitten make for a great movie in our eyes.

10. Puss in Boots (2011)
This movie features the ever-famous cat Puss in Boots from the Shrek movies. This time, however, the movie follows the adventures of Puss in Boots while he tries to achieve his lifelong goal of finding three magic beans with his friend Humpty Dumpty. Puss is not the only cat featured in the movie however, he’s also accompanied by a pretty feline Kitty Softpaws, and he has many run ins with cats all over town – our favourite being the infamous “Ooooo” cat.

These are our top 1o favourite cat movies, but we’d love to hear what you think.
