Scarlett the cat is an incredible mother cat who risked her own life to save the lives of her kittens.
Her story takes place in March 1996 in the garage of an abandoned home in Brooklyn, New York. Because there were no people living in the house, Scarlett decided to make a nest for herself and her kittens in the abandoned garage. Unfortunately, for an unknown reason, the house burst into flames on the night of March 30, 1996.
When the fire department arrived to extinguish the fire, they discovered a strange sight… 5 lonely kittens laying outside of the garage. When the firefighters finally found Scarlett she was fighting for her own life. Scarlett had suffered severe burns because she pulled each of her kittens out of the fire one by one. It was obvious that Scarlett was determined to risk her life for the kittens as the burns caused her eyes to blister shut, and the fur on her face and body was almost gone. Read More…
The “Name the New Kitten” contest entries have all been received, and after much deliberation we’ve decided that the new kitten’s name should be…
Bindi
Congratulations to Telane for coming up with this great name, and thanks to all of our entrants for participating in the contest. We loved all of the name suggestions for the new kitten, and we look forward to your input and participation in future contests.
Orangey the cat is a celebrity in his own right. He is likely even famous among the feline population too. This orange tabby cat starred in many movies and television shows during the 1950s and the 1960s including the movies This Island Earth, The Incredible Shrinking Man, and most notably as Audrey Hepburn’s co-star in Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
Orangey was such a great actor that he won two Patsy Awards for his great performances, one for his starring role in the movie Rhubarb, and the other for his unforgettable role as Holly Golightly’s unnamed cat in Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
If you’ve never seen a movie starring Orangey, why not spend an evening watching one of his feature films this weekend?
We thought we’d tell you a bit about the new kitten to help you pick the perfect name for her.
She’s 2 1/2 months old, she’s an only child, and her mother is Momma Grey.
She’s very chatty. She spends a lot of her time talking to us and the other kitties in the sanctuary.
She loves to eat… especially any of the food that the other kitties are eating.
She has 2 speeds: all out fast, and slow-lazy.
Her best friend is Big Head. He used to be a ‘scary looking’ feral cat when he lived on the streets. But today he’s just a big softy.
Her favourite thing to do is to jump on the other cats to see if they want to play with her. Though only a few cats are ever interested in giving up their nap-time to play a game with her.
Now that you know a bit about the new kitten, you can help her find a name. If you have the perfect name for this adorable girl make sure to submit your name entries here: http://pawsonyourheart.com/name-kitten-contest-2012/. The contest ends November 29th at midnight.

Today’s Famous Friday is a Guest Post by Christine Walker
Today we’re going to teach you 11 ways to be unforgettable using the famous feline the Cheshire Cat as a model. It isn’t the purple and pink attire that makes the Cheshire Cat so easy to remember, it’s all in the attitude.
This famous feline plays a small role in Disney’s Alice in Wonderland, yet he is still one of the most memorable characters. Even though the Cheshire Cat only appears, or should we say appears, then disappears, then reappears in Alice and Wonderland he makes a strong impression. The Cheshire Cat may be viewed as a villainous character, but there are still good things that we can learn from him. No one can forget that grin. With all that attitude, the Cheshire Cat makes a lasting impression. Read More…
