Would you ever consider putting your pet in charge of your estate after your death? Although this idea might sound absurd to some, many people do see this as a feasible option when writing their Will and Testament. In fact, a man named Ben Rea left over £15 million to his loving feline friend Blackie… which ultimately left Blackie the world’s richest cat.
Okay, so Blackie didn’t receive all £15 million because Ben Rea allotted about half of this money to several cat charities, but this still left Blackie with a large chunk of money. The interesting thing about Ben Rea’s Will and Testament is that he didn’t leave any money to anyone in his family – it was all left for Blackie. This meant that the lucky feline Blackie was set to live a lavish cat lifestyle for the rest of his days.
Not only did Blackie become a notoriously wealthy feline, but he also earned himself a place in the 2011 Guinness Book of World Records as “The World’s Richest Cat”. Since this exciting time, Blackie has decided to reside to a quieter life outside of the spotlight.
Blackie isn’t the only rich pet in the world. Check out this list of other animals who have inherited a fortune: http://www.shortlist.com/shortlists/the-worlds-richest-animals.
