Cattarina was the house cat of the acclaimed horror poet Edgar Allan Poe. With his spooky reputation one might expect Edgar Allan Poe to be the owner of a black cat, but Cattarina was actually a tortoiseshell cat.
Edgar Allan Poe’s wife Virginia originally adopted Cattarina for herself, though Poe quickly became fond of this loving feline. In fact, it is noted that Poe enjoyed Cattarina’s company so much that he would allow her to sit on his shoulders while he wrote.
Cattarina acted as a source of inspiration for Poe, and she became the muse for many of his works including the short story The Black Cat. Although Cattarina was not noted to have spooky characteristics herself, living in the Poe household would certainly make her a spoky famous feline by association.
