Famous Friday: Grumpy Cat

by Paws on Your Heart on November 27, 2015

What better way to ring in the Holiday Season with our final Famous Friday post before Christmas, than to write it about the ever cheerful feline sensation… Grumpy Cat.

Grumpy Cat (who’s real name is Tardar Sauce) made a splash on the internet in 2012 when she was introduced on Reddit as a permanently grumpy looking cat (see the original Grumpy Cat photos HERE). Because of Tardar Sauce’s breed type, her feline dwarfism, and her underbite, she has a permanent unimpressed expression on her face – which makes it look like she hates everything.

This Reddit post became extremely popular, and within 24 hours, thousands of Grumpy Cat memes were created and uploaded to the internet. These hilarious memes have become hugely popular on the internet, and these days Grumpy Cat seems to have an opinion on everything (check out this collection of Grumpy Cat memes).

Thanks to the widespread popularity of the Grumpy Cat meme, Tardar Sauce was awarded MSNBC’s Most Influential Cat Award in 2012, BuzzFeed’s Meme of the Year award in 2013, The Golden Kitty Award at the Internet Cat Video Film Festival in 2013, and the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2013 Friskies.

In addition to these great awards, Grumpy Cat was also picked up by the Friskies cat food company to be their official Spokescat. The advertisement campaign began in 2013, check out one of his commercials HERE.

Can’t get enough of Grumpy Cat? She’s got her very own website here: http://www.grumpycats.com/ where you will be able to check out the Grumpy Cat line of merchandise and her very first book Grumpy Cat: A Grumpy Book, which was published in July 2013.
