Famous Friday: Heathcliff

by Paws on Your Heart on November 20, 2015

Heathcliff is a fun-loving, mischievous cartoon cat who has captured the hearts of many people since his introduction in 1973. So what is it that we love about him?

We love Heathcliff because he always finds himself on a wacky feline adventure. Whether he’s knocking over garbage cans, stealing milk from the milkman, or bothering the local dogs, this orange cat always knows how to get himself into some kind of trouble in Westfinster – especially with Mr. Schultz, the manager or the town’s local fish shop.

In addition to his daily hijinx, Healthcliff also spends time with his girlfriend Sonja, and his human friend, Marcy.

The Heathcliff comic strip was introduced in 1973 by George Gately, and it is still being distributed in over 1,000 newspapers. In addition to being featured in a comic strip, Heathcliff has also found himself in his very own comic book series called Heathcliff, and Heathcliff’s Funhouse, he was animated in two television cartoon called Heathcliff, one in 1980 and the other in 1984 (see the intro to this series HERE), and a feature film called Heathcliff the Movie in 1986. There is also talk of a second CGI live action film being produced for 2014.
