Famous Friday: Hobbes

by Paws on Your Heart on May 31, 2013

“Van Gogh would’ve sold more than one painting if he’d put tigers in them.” – Hobbes, Calvin and Hobbes

Calvin and Hobbes is Bill Watterson’s classic comic strip that follows the adventures of a young boy named Calvin and his best friend, a tiger named Hobbes. The rest of the world sees Hobbes as nothing more than a stuffed tiger but to Calvin he’s very real, talking, walking upright, and joining in on the vast array of imaginative adventures that Calvin takes them on.

Hobbes’ looks and personality were based on Watterson’s cat Sprite, who was playful and known to seemingly jump out of nowhere at high speeds. This tendency can definitely be seen in Hobbes – Hobbes loves to pounce on and attack Calvin each day when he gets home from school. He also enjoys laying in sunbeams, naps, having his belly rubbed, and most of all, tuna.

by Paws on Your Heart on May 28, 2013

We love learning about other sanctuaries around the world that are doing amazing work for feral and stray cats. One of the most amazing sanctuaries that we’ve recently learned about is located in California, and it’s one of largest no-kill sanctuaries in the state (and maybe even the whole country). This sanctuary is called Cat House on the Kings.

The sanctuary is run by a remarkable lady named Lynea Lattanzio. She runs the sanctuary on a 12-acre acreage, which means that there’s a lot of room for the over 700 cats and kittens to run around in a safe environment. Read More…

Famous Friday: Cooper the Cat

by Paws on Your Heart on May 24, 2013

Have you ever wondered what life looks like through a cat’s eyes? Well now you can find out thanks to the artistic feline named Cooper the cat.

The owners of this artistic feline thought it would be a great idea to attach an automatic miniature camera around his collar to see what he does when he goes outside. His owners were pleasantly surprised at the pictures they retrieved from Cooper after his first outing with the camera. Cooper was able to capture some amazing photographs from his journey outside. His pictures were of plants, trees, and even other cats from a very unique perspective. Take a look at some of his most popular prints Here.

Cooper’s owners were so impressed with Cooper’s photography skills that they began to make and sell prints of his pictures. The pictures became incredibly popular with the online community, and Cooper has even been able to host his own art shows in real galleries. Cooper now has his own photography book called Cat Cam: The World of Cooper the Photographer Cat.
