Marie Antoinette, the Queen of France from 1774 to 1792, is typically thought of as more of a dog person, but her six cats are part of the legend surrounding the origin of the Maine Coon breed. Many pets lived in the Palace of Versailles, and among them were six white Turkish Angora cats belonging to the royal family. We love learning about different cat places around the world. One such place is a very cool gallery in Colonia Roma, Mexico City called Garros Gallery. This gallery is the one and only museum dedicated to cats in Mexico, and it’s a great destination to visit if you’re travelling in Mexico.
The museum is owned by 2 siblings named Joel and Maria del Carmen Nava Polini, and is the result of the family’s love and adoration for felines. The siblings began collecting feline memorabilia and figurines when they were children. Whilst growing their collection, they realized that there were very few stores that sold cat-themed products in Mexico, so they decided to create their own store! Read More…

This week we have another famous cat lover for you: Freddie Mercury, late frontman of the rock band Queen, who was a huge cat person. Freddie’s cats were as important to him as any human. He had as many as six cats at one point, and along with being his close companions and friends, they also inspired his music and style.
Most of Freddie’s cats were adopted from rescue centers and they all lived in his London home. He loved to lavish affection on them – they had fresh chicken and fish prepared for them, were each given their own stocking full of treats at Christmas, and had full run of the house.
