Paws On Your Heart is a non-profit sanctuary for feral and stray cats with special needs, part of the larger Hillview Acres Animal & Nature Preserve. The sanctuary’s brand new facilities are located on a spacious property owned by our family in beautiful rural Saskatchewan, and for decades we have been providing food, shelter and love to homeless cats. We love every one of our residents, and are committed to promoting cat welfare around the world. 100% of the donations we receive at Paws On Your Heart will go directly to the cats.
We also strive to help cats in our community and around the world through community outreach, education, and promoting cat welfare. For more information, see our About Us page.

Famous Friday is our way to celebrate those brilliant cats you see all over the media. Starting today, and every following Friday, we will kick your weekend off with fun facts about famous cats all over the world! You might recognize these famous felines from television, movies, books, or even your local newspaper.
Today’s Famous Feline is the black cat Homer!
Homerthe cat is a real pet cat that saved the life of his owner, Gwen Cooper. Gwen was asleep in her apartment home, when a robber intruded into her bedroom. Luckily, Homer’s loyalty and the love he had for his owner led him to attack the intruder, saving Gwen’s life.
Oh, did we mention that Homer is blind?
Homer is not only an extraordinary cat, but he’s an ideal spokes-cat for special needs cats all over the world. While others pass up special needs cats such as Homer because they are not “perfect”, they miss out on what could be a unique experience with a loyal, loving, and life-changing feline friend. We definitely recommend reading Gwen Cooper’s documentation of the life of Homer, Homer’s Odyssey: A Fearless Feline Tale, or How I Learned about Love and Life with a Blind Wonder Cat. This book puts into perspective how great life can be with a special cat. You can also learn more about Homer and Gwen on their website HERE.

What a wonderful day to launch our Paws On Your Heart blog. Today is National Feral Cat Day, the day designated by Alley Cat Allies to “promote humane care for feral cats”. Alley Cat Allies also chooses October 16th to recognize the millions of community cat caregivers. We, too, want to show our appreciation for every person in any community who helps cats.
Feral cats live in every part of the world, and in every size of community. From big cities to small towns to rural acreages cats have made the outdoors their home. We are very grateful to the millions of unsung heroes who try to make those feral homes safer, healthier, and more comfortable. A small act of kindness through a blanket put outside, a dish of fresh water replenished, or a protected food area, can mean the world to a feral cat. Read More…
