Famous Friday: Jake The Cat From Outer Space

by Paws on Your Heart on October 11, 2013

This eerie famous cat isn’t quite what you’d expect when thinking of an alien species… but if he’s a true representation of what lives in a far away galaxy, we’ll take it! Jake the cat from outer space is today’s famous feline. He’s cute, mysterious, and a much loved character from the 1978 Disney science fiction movie The Cat From Outer Space.

This famous cat from outer space is not actually a cat at all… he’s just a cat-like alien species named Zunar-J-5/9 Doric-4-7 who crash landed on earth. Because his ship crashed upon arrival, he must find a way to fix it, and he seeks help from an American military base called Energy Research Laboratory. It is here that he finds his new friend Dr. Frank Wilson, who gives the “cat” the nickname Jake (which we’ll admit, is much easier to remember than Zunar-J-5/9 Doric-4-7).

If you’re wondering how it’s possible that Jake explained his situation to a human being, it’s because of his ability to speak to others through telepathy. In addition to this amazing superpower, Jake is also able to move objects with telekinesis.

We don’t want to spoil the plot for anyone who hasn’t seen the movie, so we’ll just say that Jake the cat from outer space is a smart, brave, and loyal character, and the movie The Cat From Outer Space is a perfect family film to watch this autumn season.

Interesting Fact: Jake was played by 2 Abyssinian cats named Amber and Rumple. This cat duo was trained to collectively bring this alien cat to life in the film.

Who’s our next creepy cat? Tune in next week to find out…
