Famous Friday: Macavity the Bus Taking Cat

by Paws on Your Heart on June 17, 2016

Macavity is a cat who is famous for taking a local bus in the British Midlands. It was in 2007 when the drivers of the Number 331 bus noticed a white feline really enjoyed taking rides on the bus. The cat would catch the bus two or three times a week at the same bus stop, sit quietly on the bus, and get off the bus about 400 metres down the road (which happened to be near a fish and chips restaurant).

Nobody ever checked the cat’s collar to find out his real name, and instead, they began calling him Macavity, after the mysterious cat in T.S. Eliot’s poem “Macavity – The Mystery Cat”.

Whatever the cat’s real name was, his ability to understand public transit is a true testament to how smart cats really are.

This story takes place at St Augustine’s Church in London, England. During the late 1930s, the priest at the church, Father Henry Ross, noticed a cat kept sneaking into the church day after day. After much consideration, Father Ross decided it was a good idea to adopt the homeless cat, whom he later named Faith. Faith routinely attended the church services, often sitting right on Father Ross’s feet as he preached. Read More…
