Salem Saberhagen is a fictional talking black cat from the popular 90s television show, novel, and comic book series, Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Salem is a warlock who was sentenced to live 100 years as a cat because he used his magical powers to try to take over the world (a very cat-like thing to do).
Salem is forced to take residence in the Spellman home with Sabrina and her aunts Hilda and Zelda. Salem easily became a favourite character in the series thanks to his charming personality and his crazy antics. Not only does Salem display human characteristics such as witty remarks, and a fascination with money and the internet, he also portrays extremely cat-like characteristics such as his love for fish, yarn, and chasing toys.
Along with several animatronic puppets, the television series employed 4 black cats to play the role of Salem: Elvis, Lucy, Salem and Witch.
Salem’s unique personality, and his cat-like characteristics are why he is this week’s famous feline. To learn more about Salem, check out his very own page on the Sabrina the Teenage Witch Wiki HERE.

With a name like Casper, this famous feline might conjure up images of a friendly ghost to those who have never heard of him. However, Casper is not a ghost, but a sneaky cat from Plymouth, Devon, England. Casper the cat has been featured in magazines, newspapers, and on television because of his fascinating interest in riding on the bus.
You may be wondering how a cat could possibly ride the bus by itself… but Casper the cat figured out exactly how to do it.
Every day Casper would catch the bus by himself at a bus stop in front of his home, ride it for one hour (approximately 11 miles), and get off again near his home. The bus drivers were well aware of Casper’s interest in riding the bus and they would ensure that Casper would always have a pleasant ride by posting signs to warn other riders of Casper’s presence.
Casper lived happily from 1997-2010. His unusual antics even inspired his owner Susan Finden to write a book in his memory called Casper the Commuting Cat: The True Story of the Cat Who Rode the Bus and Stole Our Hearts
, which tells the unusual story of this brilliant cat. Casper the cat is a tribute to felines everywhere, as he showed the world how intelligent and misunderstood cats really are.

The famous feline we chose this week has been around since the early 1930s. This feline is so famous that you have probably seen him in your Grandmother’s kitchen — moving his eyes and tail in sync. The famous cat we are talking about is of course the iconic Kit-Cat clock.
Everyone has seen a Kit-Cat clock at least once in his or her life. But where did the idea for this interesting clock come from?
The cheerful Kit-Cat clock began production in the 1930s. The Kit-Cat clock acted as a sense of comfort for people struggling during the Great Depression, cheering people up with his moving eyes and tail. The clock became a staple in most American kitchens, creating a sense of comfort for everyone who owned one.
The Kit-Cat clock has remained a staple in the homes of many people due to the positive childhood memories that people have when they see the clock. Cat enthusiasts also keep the Kit-Cat clock popular, because what cat lover wouldn’t want a funky cat clock in their home?
If you’d like to learn more about the infamous Kit-Cat clock, or find out how you can purchase one of your own, check out their website: http://www.kit-cat.com/.

Dewey Readmore Books is famous for his real life adventures living in a library in Spencer, Iowa. Dewey became the resident cat at the Spencer Public Library after being discovered by the staff in a freezing book depository in January of 1988. The employees at the library immediately fell in love with Dewey and they decided to adopt him as the resident library cat. Dewey was nursed back to health and was taken in for his routine vaccinations to ensure that he would live a long and healthy life at the library.
And live a long life he did….
Dewey lived in the library from 1988 – 2006, bringing happiness and comfort to the residents of Spencer during his stay. Visitors to the library could always find Dewey lounging around the library, especially in any empty box that he could find.
Dewey Readmore Books became quite a famous cat, and recently his life was documented and shared with the world in the book Dewey: The Small Town Library Cat Who Touched the World, written by Vicki Myron. Vicki Myron worked at the library throughout Dewey’s entire stay and got to know him very well. This book is one of our favourite cat books, and it is clearly a worldwide favourite as it has reached New York Times Bestseller status.
